Elizabeth Freeman Center

Thanks to the Elizabeth Freeman Center for presenting the Berkshire Board of Realtors with a lovely recognition. This award was presented, “In the name of Elizabeth Freeman and countless women who have struggled before us, and for the sake of their families and the generations yet to come. The EFC commits to working toward a world free from violence and all forms of oppression.” — with Elizabeth Freeman and elizabeth freeman center.
This is in recognition of the grant we were able to secure in the amount of $1,500 to help with their front line emergency services for women and families in crisis.

The Elizabeth Freeman Center (EFC) has been providing frontline emergency and ongoing support services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their families in Berkshire County for thirty five years.

Hotline calls to EFC were up 51% in 2009 over the previous year. EFC sheltered 155 adults and children in their secure shelter and another 30 persons, including 12 children, in motels because shelters were full. EFC operates an emergency shelter in a confidential, secure location for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault who must leave their homes due to imminent harm or death. So often people come to the shelter with but the clothes they wear. Persons who come into the shelter are homeless, in imminent risk and can generally not be housed in other community shelters due to safety concerns. EFC provides an array of services, including assistance with finding safe affordable housing.

The Elizabeth Freeman Center is located at 43 Francis Avenue, Pittsfield, MA 01201-5053 and accessible by telephone at (413) 499-2425 .
